A total number of 15 participants were present for the first day of training at the Agility-Oiada vocational training centre. The class led by Setornam began with an activity where each participant was asked to add an adjective to their names and introduce themselves so they get to know themselves better. After which the trainer, Setornam began the session with an introduction to what digital marketing is and the major factors to consider when going digital. According to him, digital marketing is the use of the internet, online-based digital technologies, and media to promote products and services. Digital marketing connects and influences potential customers and already existing customers using various digital platforms. The students were later introduced to various career prospects such as SEO Specialist, UX Designer, Digital Projects Officer, and Chief Marketing Officer in Digital Marketing. The students were very excited about the opportunities and careers mentioned.
The trainer also explained the different types of Digital Marketing to the students. This included Web, Email and Social Media Marketing. The trainer demonstrated to the class the major things to consider when going digital. This includes your scope (Social, Web or Mobile), Time and Cost( Setting a realistic budget and an achievable schedule), Technology and Content (Deciding if you want to handle the technology and creative aspects yourself).
The trainer took them through a guide on how to create an online strategy and also introduced them to Unique Selling point (USP), SWOT Analysis And Competitor Analysis (making use of tools such as Google Alert).
The trainer ended the class by explaining PPC(Pay-Per-Click). This means posting your advertisement on a digital platform and paying anytime someone clicks on the ad. Eg. Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Twitter promotions.
The second session of the week kicked off with the trainer, Setornam doing a recap of what they did on the previous day by letting them play a Kahoot game.
The trainer explained Email Marketing as a section of digital marketing that uses email to promote a business’s products or services. He also talked about the uses of Email marketing which includes, communicating with the audience, promoting contact, discount and directing to the website.
The trainer later explained Affiliate Marketing, Mobile Marketing and Social Media Marketing. The trainer explained the stages of purchasing Online. This includes Seeing, thinking, doing and caring. He also emphasized how to choose the right channels online.
He also talked about Customer touchpoints. He explained it as the stage when a customer or a potential customer comes in contact with a business. The trainer also talked about how to figure out a customer’s journey, choosing touchpoints and analysis.
The trainer explained that Social can be a platform where one can share content, contribute to conversations, build trust, grow the sphere of influence and understand customers.
The trainer later talked about Social Media Strategy from Setting smart goals, Creating audience persona, Conducting a competitive analysis, doing Social auditing, Creating social media content calendar, Evaluating and adjusting your strategy, Gaining Social Media Traction to ways of growing one’s network which included Members-Only offers, face-to-face meetups and Entertaining content.
Getting to the end of today’s session, the trainer explained what buyer persona is and the things to consider when putting together your buyer persona and what key performance indicator is.
The trainer ended the session by putting the beneficiaries into groups and tasked them to come up with social media strategy for businesses each group picked as their project.
