Cohort 1 of the UPSHIFT Social Innovation training had its second session for week 3 on 19th August 2021. The students were given some snacks before the class started. Mr Jerry then began the session by explaining that the traditional way of sending a message through a post office is similar to that of email. He added that electronic mail is a good communication tool because once your account is set up, composing, sending, and receiving messages is simple, reliable, and fast.
Later, the students began to create email accounts using Microsoft outlook. They started by visiting outlook.com. They presented their details, entered their passwords, and confirmed that they were not robots. After successfully setting up their emails, the trainer explained components such as the inbox, sent items, and drafts. He encouraged everyone to write their outlook mail addresses and passwords in their books.
The session continued with Mr. Jerry explaining that the structure of an email message is just like that of a letter. He told them that email etiquette requires one to begin a message with Dear, Hello after which they add the title of the person. He gave them a task to send a message to each other, which should contain a subject, a brief body, and a neutral concluding message.
