The Fifth Week of the Soronko Rotary Girls Coding Project began with a lot of excitement as the ladies are getting ready to work on their respective projects.
The first-week lesson started with their trainer, Miss Oreo introducing Word Press as an application programming interface, which has a lot of unique features used in building websites.
After, students created a website using both their domain name and hosting from profreehost.com. They created a website address for a breakfast business they would like to operate. Next, they installed WordPress to further build this website. Students then installed and activated starter templates, Elementor, Elementor Kits and Contact forms by WP which were plugins to be used for the next class.
The second session of Week five started with everyone logging into their WordPress account, which was to enable them to build their websites. After, they uploaded a restaurant template, imported it onto their websites and started editing with Elementor(a plugin they had installed in the previous class).
Later, the students created logos using Canva and imported them onto their websites. Participants were taught how to change background images and colours, how to edit text, how to insert captions and reorder sections. They then downloaded pictures from their goggle classroom and inserted them onto their websites to make them look good.
The session continued with students teaming up to help each other complete their websites. The lesson ended with Miss Oreo urging everyone to explore more features on this interface to enable them to make amazing websites which would go a long way to help them.
The final class for Week 5 started with Miss Oreo giving a recap of yesterday’s class. Later, the students had a test on Kahoot. This test was on CSS, HTML and WordPress. This session was entertaining each participant wanted to get the answers right. At the end of the test, the best students were encouraged to keep up their good work. Students were put in groups for their final project. Each group was given a specific website topic to build. The groups met up to brainstorm on how to go about their websites and the templates to use.
This week was very essential to the ladies project work and it also helped them to produce ideas for their project.
