On the 30th of August 2021, the National Female Pre Tech training program started the 3rd Cohort. The training will be held on Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm for three weeks. This program seeks to train women by providing them with fundamental technology skills for personal growth and career development. The focus for this Cohort is Mobile App Development.
The class started with an introduction of the trainer, Ms. Mazior Nyanyo. She shared with the class her experience and spoke about the projects she had worked on and was currently working on. There was an introduction session for the students, after which they continued with the ice breaker activity, two truths and a lie. This activity is a fun game aimed at getting to know each other. The students were required to write three things about themselves on paper, where two were true and one was false. Each student took turns to guess what the lie was.
Ms. Mazior continued to the main lesson of the class. She explained programming to the students and told them that knowing the foundations of programming is very important as it is the basis for coding in various languages. The trainer encouraged the ladies to focus their skills on supporting local brands. The class had an introduction to setting up and installation, where the trainer asked the students to download the Flutter App on their laptops and asked them to download and sign up to FIGMA. Ms. Mazior took the students through the foundations of the user interface. She worked together with the students to build their first homepage user interface.
The students took a lunch break at 12 pm and resumed their class at 1 pm. They continued with the download and installation of the various apps they needed for the class.
At the end of the session, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at Soronko Academy, Ms. Harriet Bampoe asked the students to fill a pre-evaluation form online and also told them to read and sign the letter of commitment. Finally, to end the class, a group photo was taken by the Media Officer at Soronko Academy, Mr. Jerry Aidoo.
