Day 2 of the National Female Pre-Tech training started with a fun stretching game just to get the students ready for the class. There was a review on what had been discussed the previous day. The students were given a task on User experience design and were allowed to present what they had done. They then moved on to the subject of the day.
Ms. Mazior assisted the students to reinstall the Flutter software as most of the students encountered challenges the previous day. The class went ahead to install Android studio unto their various laptops. They then worked on creating and designing a homepage for Kwafrique designs with FIGMA, as instructed by the trainer. After this, each student took turns to present their designs. Most of the ladies created very basic designs. One of the students stood out with the her design, which was applauded by her mates. She explained to the other students that she had created a website for her business and so she was able to use similar elements for the task.
One of the students started an interesting discussion about an App idea for Taxi drivers. She suggested that it would be interesting and very helpful to create a voice activated navigation App for Taxi drivers in the rural areas. This suggestion was welcomed by Ms. Mazior who then asked the students to help contextualize the idea.
With the trainer’s assistance, the class went ahead to flesh out the rest of the pages and design for Kwafrique using FIGMA. They discussed their target by elaborating the Who, What and Wow elements. They also discussed the various demographic information such as age, language and educational levels of their target group. The class took a thirty minute break and continued with their work.
Before the class was dismissed, the trainer assigned the students to do a full UI. She tasked them to design more pages for their Kwafrique app. The students would do a presentation on this assignment during the next session.
