Steadily making progress, participants were taken through the role of a social media manager in today’s session.
The Soronko Business Solutions Center manager, Mr Jerry Aidoo was the lead trainer for the day. With the aid of slides, he described a social media manager as the person within an organization who is trusted with monitoring, executing, filtering, and measuring the social media presence of a product, brand, corporation, or even individual. He added that Social media platforms are fast-paced and usually considered “real-time marketing,” so social media managers must be able to work quickly and respond and share information as it becomes available. The social media manager often must be well-versed in news cycles and an industry expert for their company, business, product, or service.
They delved into the tasks of a social media manager. These include developing, implementing, and managing social media strategy, oversee social media content, measure the success of every social media campaign, stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies, work with copywriters and designers to ensure content is informative and appealing, collaborate with Marketing, Sales and Product Development teams, monitor SEO and user engagement and suggest content optimization. Skills needed to be an effective manager include Communication, Writing / Copywriting, Creativity, Efficiency & Top-notch organization, Traditional & Digital Marketing just to mention a few.
Jerry gave insight on how the different social media platforms worked and the ability to understand how each works and operates is a skill every social media manager needs. They were also taught how to make money as a social media manager, identifying your purpose as a manager, getting and handling clients, and above all making an impact because the main goal for most businesses in regards to social media is to increase growth, sales or educate their core audience. The class ended after questions the participants had were answered.
For the second day of training, The trainer began the class with a recap of the previous session where they installed WordPress and the necessary plugins to set up the WordPress. He then proceeded to list the topics that would be completed by the end of the day.
He started by inserting a new section into the webpage and explaining the various ways to edit sections using the tools. He explained how to change the layout, how to style by adding images or colors as backgrounds, and using the padding and margins to structure the content and positioning of the section. Leading the class, the trainer created a section for himself and asked the ladies to add sections to their websites. The ladies then designed their first section of the website and showed it to their group members to assess it. Following a review by their peers, a few had to remove portions of their websites.
Hereafter they proceeded to add templates to their websites. All the ladies were made to add a template to their website and shown how to edit a template. He explained the use of templates in designing a website and how to make a template your own by changing the content.
After this, the women were tasked with creating a new page and began building the first section of their website.
Both Sessions of the class ended on a strong note as the participants really engaged each other and the trainers in building their website and how to implement interesting features
