The Career Development Advisor, Ms. Josephine Offei leading today’s session delivered training on Leadership skills for Entrepreneurs.
She started with a quote from John C. Maxwell-” Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less”. She defined leadership as the use of key skills and practices correctly applied at the right time to help the organization and its people reach their highest potential. They explored the various leadership styles as well. These were directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating after, in which they discussed what to use in any situation they found themselves in.
Next, they talked about Leading yourself, and to do this one must identify his/her purpose. This guides life decisions, influences behavior, shapes goals, offers a sense of direction, and fuels passion, she added. The second is to establish your vision. Vision provides clarity for the future while directing us to place our attention in the present. The third is to Outline our values. These are the standards, characteristics, behaviors, and beliefs that motivate and guide us in our decisions. She further touched on Building trust and confidence, Communicating effectively, Motivation and inspiring as the skills needed to lead others.
They took a leadership assessment which per, the scores they got determined the type of leadership style they exhibited. She encouraged the women to practice good leadership skills in their various businesses and gave them the necessary guidelines.
Miss Josephine shared some tips on working with teams. These included assessing the kinds of skills, strengths, and talents that you currently have on the team, set clear expectations as to how the team should function, and cast a clear vision, purpose, and mission statement – set the goals and share what success looks like help the team identify the roles that each person will play, ensure the team has the right resources and the support to achieve the goal, set structures for accountability, plan for recognition and appreciation for the team’s achievements, Share learnings among others.
Today’s soft skills was insightful as most of the ladies got to learn something new they could apply in their entrepreneurial and life journey.
