On 2nd August 2021, participants of the upshift training program cohort 1 were oriented to the course objectives, shared the background of the firm, its mission, and what the training seeks to achieve, among others.
First, the trainer, Madam Oreoluwa Akani introduced herself and shared her background experience throughout her working years at the academy. The students then played 2 truths and lie game. This fun game helped them to know themselves. The trainer explained that the training would cover topics such as social innovation, the computer, and the internet, and building a solution to help solve problems in society. She also emphasized punctuality, teamwork, and taking assignments seriously as the basis for his class assessment.
Later, the students were required to fill out a questionnaire using the link https://cutt.ly/upshiftbaseline. It was explained to them by Miss Harriet that the academy usually conducts surveys to get a general insight into their level of computer literacy and skills. This helps the instructor have an overview and prepares him for handling the class. Participants were given laptops to undergo this activity. Some Soronko team members were present to assist students who were having challenges accessing the link as well as understanding some questions. The trainer encouraged students to pay close attention to lessons that are being taught and practised them more often. This would help them familiarise themselves with the various components that would be used throughout the training.
At the end of the class, the students were offered their lunch, after which they took a group picture, and thereafter they departed for their various destinations.
