The National Pre-tech training program began Day 13 with a recap of what they learnt on Day 12 then, the trainer proceeded to the Day’s lesson which was; Content Marketing.

The trainer tasked the students to define what they thought content marketing and content creation was. Participants then shared what they thought were the differences between them.

Jerry explained content marketing as the sharing of online materials, like videos, blogs and social media posts. He added that content marketing is focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience. It is also designed to generate interest in a company’s products or services by capturing people’s attention.

Later, the student explored the purpose of content which is to entertain, educate, inspire and convince people. The trainer cited examples of some African Content creators and their content creation styles. The class explored content creation ideas and examples of brands that can use such content strategies to increase their brand awareness.

Next, the trainer took them through the process of preparing content, the first one he mentioned was the importance of researching by doing so you look at your direct and indirect competitors, brands in your industry, influencers and popular brands channels. Another important point Jerry highlighted was studying trends of their favourite brands and competitors content types, frequency, consistency and hashtags.

Afterwards, the class explored the various Social Media Platforms and the content that best works for them. The trainer explained that research that was conducted indicated that, images on “tips” work well on Instagram, videos get more traction on Facebook and that it is beneficial for students to create content based on their available resources.
