Finally, it is day five of the National Pre-tech training program, it has been a terrific week so far with the ladies learning Graphic Design and Photography. In today’s session, the ladies continued with their photographer lessons but, first, there was a Kahoot test to understand what they studied yesterday. After the test, it was clear a lot of the students did not understand some of the things that were taught in the training and so the lead trainer, Jerry quickly took them through what they did not understand.
Next, he moved on to the topic for the day which was Product Photography direction. The trainer emphasized the importance of having a clean and clear background, the positioning of your product, having a clean clear background, a steady camera and lastly, using props that enhance the looks. Later students were taught angles to shoot photos, they were taken through the eye-level shot, low shot, high angle shot, bird-eye shot and the slanted shot. The ladies were paired up for an activity where a student played the role of the photographer and the other person a mode. This activity was to help them practice the different types of shots they had learnt and also practice what they learnt about product shoot.
After this activity students shared their experiences and what they had learnt, some mentioned that they realised that the background gives it a beautiful look and one said you when taking a picture from a different angle it helps. Jerry added that creating a shortlist of how you want your shoot to go is important.
Participants were then taken through exposure; the trainer explained exposure as the amount of light that reaches your camera sensor or film. He also explained that there are three ways your camera can control the amount of light that reaches the film or the image sensor; these three together constitute the exposure triangle. The ladies were also taught how to determine the right camera exposure, these were the shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
In closing today’s session he outlined photography accessories such as the gimbal, the mobile tripod, the Gorillapod, Speedlite light, Reflector, Softbox, Cannon 50mm Prime Lens and the Telephoto Lens.
