As part of the Soronko Rotary Girls Coding Project, Soronko Academy engages participants with soft skills training to equip young ladies with life, personal and entrepreneurial skills.
On January 29th 2021, the participants of soronko rotary girls coding project had their second soft skills session with our Career & Guidance Advisor, Ms Josephine Offei who took the ladies through presentation and public speaking.
She tasked the students to advertise a broken phone and convince a buyer as to why it’s the best reason to purchase. She explained presentation as a process of presenting the content of a topic to an audience. “It often utilizes visual aids or graphics,” Madam Josephine went on to note the key strategies one could take to deliver an effective presentation such as researching, being precise, understanding your audience and most importantly presenting to suit the occasion. She also advised the ladies to structure their presentation by having a defined structure that contains an opening, body and conclusion. She highlighted the significance of holding the attention of an audience with appealing visuals such as charts, graphs, videos and images.
The class ended with a practical session where Madam Josephine grouped the ladies with a task to create a presentation based on themes assigned to each group. Every group had 30mins to brainstorm and present on their theme within 3 minutes to the entire class. The class, who also served as an audience, were also allowed to critique with suggestions on how to improve their presentations.
Miss Josephine commended all the groups for their level of skill and technicality exhibited during the presentation.
The participants also testified to how the session has helped them immensely, and combat the fear around public speaking.
