Soronko Academy in partnership with Agility International is organizing special coding, digital, and essential soft skills for young women living in and around Tema. “CODE WITH AGILITY” is designed to help young women between the ages of 17-35 years gain essential coding and digital skills for today’s emerging job market. Agility-Oiada Training Academy is a partnership program launched by Agility Logistics and Oiada International in Tema, Ghana. Our mission is to assist disadvantaged Ghanaian youth and adults recognize their own self-worth, and advance towards self-sufficiency and financial security through job training, academic reinforcement, improved life skills, job placement, and support services.
After the “CODE WITH AGILITY” training, Soronko Academy will connect the young women with jobs, internships, and opportunities to start their own tech-enabled business. The program is designed to run on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays starting from 7th June 2021 for 6 weeks from 1 pm – 4 pm.
The event kicked off with an opening prayer by Miss Annette Agyare, the Human Resources Manager of Soronko Academy followed by a welcome address by the CEO Mrs Regina Honu. In the welcome remarks, Mrs Regina Honu thanked Agility for the great partnership to equip women in Tema with digital and entrepreneurship skills. She also encouraged all selected applicants to remain motivated and enthused about the journey ahead of them.
The Assistant Commercial Manager of Agility Warehouse Park, Mr Kingsford Nii Tetteh, delivered a presentation on Agility and welcomed all the participants. According to him, Agility’s Corporate Social Responsibility is prepared to support and equip young people with life-changing skills for 21-century work. This partnership is an exciting one for Agility and young people within Tema and its environs.
The participants later received Safety Training from the Facility Manager of Agility, Mr Ahmed. As part of the training and safety protocols, the participants were advised to adhere to instructions given by the security and facility management team. The participants also received a safety protocol tour of the Agility Warehouse Park to enable them to familiarise themselves with the premises.
An icebreaker activity of “Two Truths, One Lie” was later held to allow participants to network and know themselves better. The participants were introduced to the Training Coordinators and also received a brief overview of what to expect in the coming weeks. The participants were thankful to have been selected and shared some expectations they hope to gain upon completing the training. Some expectations highlighted by the participants included the following;
- Learn more about SEO and how to drive traffic to a website.
- Leverage social media marketing skills to promote their business and upscale their sales.
- As a welder, I hope to build capacity in IT and coding to operate machines.
- To increase my business visibility on social media.
- Develop skills in graphic design and WordPress.
In closing the Career and Development Advisor Miss. Josephine Offei delivered a presentation on Soronko Academy Opportunities Platform and Career advisory services offered to all beneficiaries. She also introduced the selected applicants to the Soronko Alumni Network which seeks to foster capacity building and friendship among current and previous trainees of the Academy.
